The people of Akwa Ibom State will not forget in a hurry the
glitz, razzmatazz and glamour that attended the 2013 Christmas Carol
Night, an event that saw 9,999 Choristers gathering to render songs and
praises to God on the 21st of December, 2013, at the Uyo Township
Stadium.
The epoch making event which has comfortably settled in the Guinness Book of World Records, has organized by the state government to mark the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ every Christmas since 2008.
This year's event brought together gospel artistes, preachers, residents of the state and visitors alike, in a unique commemoration of the birth of Christ and the yuletide season in an evening of worship, praise, exhortation and unity Christmas carols rendition.
The funfilled night is a brain child of the Executive Governor of the state, Chief (Dr.) Godswill Obot Akpabio, inspired by his desire to gather people from every church, hamlet, village, in and around the state, to share in the joy of Christmas with the First Family.
It started on December 26, 2008, which saw the state make history as it was entered into the Guinness Book of World Records as The Largest Assembly of Carol Singers on the Face of the Earth with 9, 300 carol singers drawn from the 31 local government areas of the state.
The 2013 edition of the Carol Night saw Bishop David Oyedepo, the General Overseer of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, popularly known as Winners Chapel preaching the word of God.
American gospel singers, Evangelist Israel Houghton, Lionel Peterson, Nigerian gospel acts like Frank Edwards, Sinach, Aity Inyang, El-Mafrex, Nathaniel Bassey, Folake Umosen, Fadabasi, Freke Umoh, Pasto Goody Goody, Linda Etokudoh and the St. Kitts & Nevis Choir from the tiny Caribean country entertaining and keeping the night alive.
United States of America born human rights activist, Rev. Jesse Jackson was also in attendance including other important dignitaries that added verve to the event.
