Grema,
who made this known to AFP, said the assailants’ burnt police station
as well as military camps, adding that scores of people were shot dead
during the assault.

Boko Haram Members
He said the victims included five members of the Islamist while the others were residents.
“The
gunmen split into three groups and launched simultaneous attacks on the
military camp, the police station and other buildings in the village”
Grema said.
He said not less than six residents
were killed in the attack including a member of a local vigilante force
popularly known as “civilian JTF”.
Another
witness, who gave his name as Musa Bulama, while collaborating Grema’s
information said, the terrorist razed houses and shops, a police station
as well as a military camp.
“Five
of (the Islamists) were killed and five others were captured during
fierce gun battles that followed the raid” Bulama said. “A vigilante was
dragged from his home and slaughtered on the streets by extremists”.
It
is believed that the Islamist, who stormed Krenuwa late in the night
were on a revenge mission against the villagers who joined the military
to fight against them.
Borno State has been one of
the hardest hit states in the Islamist five years uprising. It would be
recalled that Marte was one of the areas in the state where Islamist
chased out government officials last year, a development that made President Goodluck Jonathan, to declare a state of emergency to enable the army flush out the terrorist.
The
recent attack followed the escape of 63 women and girls who were
abducted by the Islamists in June in Damboa. It was gathered that they
escaped while the sect members were engaged in a gun battle with security operatives. The Nigerian army said it killed 53 of the sect members during the gun fight on Friday.
