According
to Daily Trust, Gambo, who was represented at the launch by Deputy
Commissioner of Police Agboleni Douglas, expressed fears that the
recent security threats and hideous crimes being experienced in parts of
the country made the command to remind residents of the basic security
information they needed to know.
The
CP expressed optimism that by the time the information contained in
both documents are widely disseminated among all stakeholders, it would
definitely ensure the security of lives and property in the state,
adding that the Basic Security and Emergency Information document
contained security tips on what precautions and actions are expected of
an individual when faced with threats and other emergencies.
“It also contains the designation and GSM numbers of principal and staff officers of the command, from the headquarters to area commanders and the DPOs. Also contained are distress call numbers that could be used to reach the Department of Operations and Control Room in times of emergencies,” he said.
Gambo, however, recalled that the command had in the past reached out to the public through various media on how to contact the police in times of emergency.
“These contacts have been useful and had led to the bursting of some serious crimes in the recent past. To reiterate the importance of these contacts we have gone a step further to produce this pamphlet in English and Hausa languages, to be circulated to all stakeholders in all the local government areas of the state,” he said.
Responding,
Abdullahi Garba Sidi, the chairman, Association of Local Governments of
Nigeria (ALGON), Sokoto, announced the donation of a total sum of one
million naira by all governments in the state.
Sidi
explained that the financial contribution was to enable the command
make more copies of the security documents available to all residents of
the state.
