A popular Muslim cleric, Abdulrahman Muhammed-Liawal, who is
the Chief Imam of Lead City University, Ibadan, Oyo State, western
Nigeria has urged the media to stop referring to the Boko Haram sect as
an Islamic group.

* Abducted schoolgirls in Chibok, Borno State
According to PREMIUM TIMES, Mr. Muhammed-Liawal made this disclosure on Sunday at a programme organised by the Muslim community of Radio Nigeria, Ibadan, with the theme: “Islam and the Media’’.
The cleric noted that the activities of the terror group were anti-Islam, added that “Islam is not a religion that encourages force but rather a religion of peace and equity.

* Leader of Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau
“The attitude of Boko Haram contradicts the teachings of Islam; the judgement in Islam for anybody that kills his fellow being is death.
“Anybody that understands this principle will not kill his fellow being,’’ he said.
Mr. Muhammed-Liawal also advised the media to always confirm their information before reportage in order not to mislead the public.
He implored the media to ensure that they use their platforms to inform the people about the tenets of Islam.
It could be recalled that the Boko Haram sect are currently holding hundreds of schoolgirls they kidnapped in Chibok, Borno State since 14 of April, 2014.
In spite of national plea for the militants to release the girls, the leader of Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau has said he would not release the schoolgirls unless the federal government are ready to swap them with his brethren in Nigerian prisons.
The Nigerian government, led by President Goodluck Jonathan, has come out to say they are not ready to negotiate with the terrorists over the schoolgirls release while promising they would do anything to ensure the girls are rescued alive from their abductors.
