Sanusi’s Suspension: Governors Accuse Jonathan Of Breaching Constitition, CBN Act
The Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) led by Gov. Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers state have said the suspension of Lamido Sanusi as governor of Central Bank of Nigeria is a breach of the 1999 constitution and CBN act.
"The suspension of Sanusi by Mr. President is in clear breach of the Nigerian Constitution and the CBN Act, 2007," the NGF said.
The governors who attended the meeting include, Amaechi Rotimi (Rivers), Murtala Nyako (Adamawa), Umaru Tanko Al-Makura (Nasarawa), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso (Kano), Babatunde Raji Fashola (Lagos), Governor Rochas Okorocha (Imo), Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto), while deputy governors from Osun, Borno and Edo were also in attendance.
The governors who made this known in Abuja in the early hours of Tuesday after their meeting which started at about 8pm on Monday night said Sanusi's suspension was a ploy to divert attention from the missing $20bn from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation account, which Sanusi claimed was not remitted to the Federation Account.
They called for a forensic audit of the NNPC Account so that the truth can be revealed, while also calling for the support of the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, and the Senate Committee on Finance.
They also condemned the killings in the North-East while commending security operatives for their efforts at combating the insurgents.
They however called on the Federal Government to wake up to its responsibility of protecting lives and property in the country, especially in the North-East.
