He said that the local authorities had received a letter full of threats, in which the terrorists warned them of the upcoming attack. The message was forwarded to security forces for analysing.
At the same time, the Nigeria Police Force assured the residents of being able to protect the area. The local people did not believe the promise and panicked, as all of them clearly remember Boko Haram raids and mass kidnappings, in particular April 14-15 abduction of female students from the local Girls’ Governmental Secondary School.
"Everyone knows that this sect cannot be ward off by a pocket of security men and that perhaps informed why they had to send a letter to us to be expecting them.It would be recalled that Boko Haram terrorises Chibok area from time to time, while the security forces are often helpless.
"Whenever Boko Haram tells you that they are coming, they never fail to come. Our fears now is that, we don't know when and how they are going to come but our people are in great fear. We are calling for prayers as well as government to provided adequate security in Chibok," the official said.
In one of the recent attacks, at least 17 people lost their lives in a Boko Haram raid on a village close to Chibok.
At least 219 schoolgirls remain missing for 64th day.
