Some members of the church, however,
took to Facebook to shared their opinion on the divorce crisis through a
Facebook page created, ‘Where is Rev. Anita Oyakhilome,’ which is believed to have been opened by Anita’s fans.
According to one of the church members, Ijeoma Olive Ehirim said: “I
am a Christ Embassy member. I hate one thing there: How can a pastor be
working together with a lady hand in hand, attending meetings and
lodging in a hotel for days. My girlfriend travels with our branch
pastor annually for PPCF which holds in Lagos. Only God knows.”
One, Samantha Iwowo, described adultery as one of the grounds for divorce saying: “Pastor
Chris Oyakhilome must have been discovered compromising his marital bed
business. It is what it is. God says judgement will start from His
house. ‘Touch not my anointed’ is God’s instruction regarding all his
children, not an individual nicking, scheming, threatening monies off
people’s purses and telling them that salvation is tied to tithes and
that seed sowing is only money donation to the church/pastor’s coffers.
One down, more to roll. Christ be praised.”
A former member of the church, Chinyere
Okechukwu-George, claimed to have left the church when she observed some
irregularities saying: “I and my family left Christ Embassy for our
own good after worshiping there for three years plus and seeing all the
things going on under the disguise of church. And I can comfortably say
that for over a year now, we have had so much peace in our Christian
lives. I don’t care how you view my comment but truth must be told.”
Joseph Osagiede, contrary to the report making rounds of the separation said the Oyakhilomes were still together saying:
“I have been in Christ Embassy for 12 years. All is totally well with
thier marriage. All those wishing them to split and also those going
about saying nasty things about the church, be careful.”
Faith Ebunoluwa Adetayo also said:
“I have been in Christ Embassy since 1990s and I can authoritatively say
some things: I have seen the power of God work, demonstrated in
healings and many other things. I have seen how that Pastor Chris is
less concerned about mistakes we make.
“He believes that these sins of the
flesh will disappear, only if we listen to the word of God. Rather than
condemning us, he speaks words of encouragement. And for your
information, Pastor Anita is still very much in the ministry and she’s
with her darling husband.”
Meanwhile, on August 20, a post on the facebook page ‘Where is Rev.Anita Oyakhilome? stated that Rev. Anita’s leaving was a move of the spirit.
Some Nigerians have also reacted to the
divorce. According Mrs. Nkiru Ifekwem, a lecturer at the University of
Lagos who described the situation as “very messy indeed.” said: “This
will only show that we are all humans- Pastors, Reverends, Bishops and
so on. All the same, the story is quite disturbing bearing in mind that
churches and mosques are the places we look up to in this part of the
world as places where mentors for our younger generations shall come
from,” she said.
“The wife should have had this in
mind and spared the country and our society of this embarrassment by
walking away quietly. That of course would have been a sacrifice as a
Christian. Christianity teaches us that whatever situation we find
ourselves is a way of bearing the cross. Both of them should as a matter
of urgency reconcile to save their followers and members of this huge
embarrassment.”
Another Nigerian, Cecilia Popoola also said: “When
a man of God of Pastor Chris Oyakhilome status and his wife, Anita
failed to find a way of resolving their marital problem amicably, what
that means is that the devil is determined to deal a devastating blow on
the children of God. This calls for a serious prayer. Christians must
unite in prayer on behalf of this family for God to intervene. The
marriage must not break”.
The Christ Embassy Church is yet to comment on the latest report of the divorce case.
It would be recalled news of Pastor Chris Oyakhilome and his wife, Rev. Anita’s separation first went viral on May 28, 2014 after a Facebook page which was called ‘Where is Rev.Anita Oyakhilome? was opened by some members of the church who were worried about the absence of Rev.Anita in the church as she had not been seen with her husband Pastor Chris since November, 2013.
However, in June 2014, the Christ Embassy International church officials denied the report making rounds that their General Overseer, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome had divorced his wife, Rev. Anita.
On Friday, August 29 in a recent report, which has since gone viral and trending online, there are claims that Rev. Anita has filed for divorce in a London court on the grounds of “unreasonable behavior”, “adultery” and several other allegations which cannot be published for legal reasons, according to the Cable.
Meanwhile it is learnt that every information about Pastor Chris Oyakhilome’s wife, Rev.Anita has been removed from the church website including the picture of Pastor Chris and his wife, Anita which was on the homepage of the website.
Pastor Chris Oyakhilome and wife, Anita are no doubt one of the most famous couple-pastors in Nigeria.
Pastor Chris is the President of the Believers’ Love World Incorporated, the registered name of the Christian ministry, while his wife is the Vice President.
They are blessed with two teenage daughters, Sharon and Charlyn.
