A
multi-million naira mosque built by Governor Ibrahim Shema of Katsina
State will be named after Shehu Usman Dan Fodio, the first Sultan and
founder of the Sokoto Caliphate.
According to an unnamed source of DailyTrust, Dan Fodio is being honoured for the role he played as leader of the caliphate.
The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, will commission the mosque on February 21, 2014, Friday.
“This is the first time a grand mosque will be named after a great scholar.“The Sultan will be commissioning it in his capacity as a descendant of Dan Fodio and as the president of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs,” the source said.
It
has been also learnt that the Sultan will lead other emirs who are
descendants of the flag bearers of the Sokoto caliphate, senior imams
and Ulama’s to the occasion.
