President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday night held a closed door meeting with governors elected on the platform of the People's Democratic Party, PDP.
The meeting which started at about 9.30p.m at at the First Lady’s Conference Room in Aso rock was attended by most PDP governors while Bayelsa and Adamawa governors were represented by their deputies, John Jonah, Bala James Ngilari. Also in attendance were Vice President, Mohammed Namadi Sambo; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim; PDP national chairman, Ahmadu Muazu and his deputy, Uche Secondus.
Though details of the meetings agenda could not be ascertained, it was gathered that it was part of plans to strengthen the ties between the government at the centre and the PDP controlled states ahead of 2015 and also a prelude to Jonathan’s preparation to declare for his second term bid.
Jonathan has been consulting with traditional rulers, all in a bid to drum support for his second term ambition and seek their royal blessing.
Jonathan had in the past week met with the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, Ooni of Ife, Okunade Sijuade; Alaafin of Oyo, Lamidi Adeyemi; Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu and Akran of Badagry, Aholu Menu- Toyi 1 respectively.
