Footballer legend Pele recovering in hospital after kidney treatment

The doctors at the Brazilian hospital where Brazilian football legend Pele is being treated for kidney disease say his condition is improving.

According to local media reports, the 74 year old has been in intensive care unit since Monday Nov. 24th because of a urinary infection he got after having surgery to remove kidney stones on November 13th. Doctors expect him to make a full recovery as he's currently breathing normally without any support.

The governor alleged  that Obasanjo shared a huge amount of money to people  during his attempt to amend the constitution to  go for a third term as the president of Nigeria.
He said, “If you give your blood to Obasanjo, he will not support you. He doesn’t want anybody with independent mind.

“You (Jonathan) did not level Borno and Yobe the way he levelled Odi; for that, he will not like you. We know how he was when he came out of prison and how rich he was when he was leaving office.”

Fayose, who was impeached as the  Governor of Ekiti state in 2006 during the Obasanjo administration have being having a running battle with the former president.

2015: Atiku Reveals Two Things Nigerians Should Avoid

Nigeria’s former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has cautioned Nigerians against two things he identified could affect their choice of candidate in the 2015 general elections, and reiterated the need for its avoidance.

Atiku, who is a presidential aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, urged Nigerians to shun religious and tribal sentiments, National Mirror reports.
He made the revelation while speaking to a huge crowd of party supporters in continuation of his campaign tour in the South East geopolitical zone of the country.

The former vice president advised that Nigerians should instead look for a credible candidate who has the capacity, vision and the charisma before casting their votes in the forthcoming presidential elections.

Child Bride Faces Death Penalty For Killing Husband

The father of 14 year old child bride Wasila Tasi’u accused of murdering her husband and three others said on Thursday appealed to a Nigerian court to spare his daughter.

Wasila is among the thousands of child brides in the region, who was married to 35 year old Umar Sani, and now on trial after he died from eating food mixed with rat poison in April.

Three other people also reportedly died after eating the food, and the prosecution wants a death sentence for the young girl.

“We are appealing to the judge to consider Wasila’s plea,” her father, Isyaku Tasi’u, told The Associated Press on Thursday.

He congratulated the people of Osun State for the success in the August 9 governorship election and that the election illustrates the success of democracy in the country.

The ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reportedly lost another chieftain and a former minister under President Goodluck Jonathan to the All Progressive Congress (APC).

It was gathered on Thursday by the Punch that the former minister of works, Engr. Christopher Aigbovbiosa Ogiemwonyi, has defected to the APC and would be formally received by the National Chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, and other leaders today (Friday).

Ogiemwonyi is expected to join the governorship race in Edo State in 2016. His official reception is scheduled to hold at the traditional Urhokpota hall, Ring Road Benin, Edo state capital.
The former minister is reportedly expecting supporters across the three senatorial districts of the state to grace the occasion. Other dignitaries expected at the event include the former Head of State, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as well as other leaders and members of the APC.

Senate Reacts To Obasanjo's Accusations

The Senate on Thursday responded to the allegations made by a former President Olusegun Obasanjo about the National Assembly being a collection of thieves, extortionists.

The Senate, who obviously did not find Obasanjo’s comment funny, described his accusations as lies in an attempt to tarnish the image of the National Assembly.
Vanguard reports that the Senate through its chairman on Information, Media and Public Affairs, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, also claimed that it was the Obasanjo administration that approved the constituency projects to be built in the national budget which was executed by the executive.


According to the statement, the Red Chamber said it was unfortunate that the former President would distort the issue of constituency projects as meaning a direct monetary advance to lawmakers and thus amounting to the “promotion of corruption” by the National Assembly.
Abaribe in the statement said the former President’s comment was distant from the truth and nowhere near reality, adding that if it was so, the former President would not have tolerated such for the period he was the President of the country.

Lagos State Police Command has paraded a 25-year-old aspiring musician named John Sunday who is charged with armed robbery.


Sunday told reporters he went to the illegal route to get N100,000 to promote his reggae album.
He said: “I am a musician from Ikofepepe in Akwa Ibom State. We were three in the gang, but one is on the run. I needed money to launch my album, Tureke Reggae; that is why I went into robbery. I was targeting N100,000″ .

His partner, John Onyekachi Oshomi (right) said he was a bus conductor and went into robbery to feed his family. The two were arrested on November 21st.

“I was a commercial bus conductor. We were operating on the Agege Total-Oshodi route. I just got married, but my wife is still in the village. I was looking for money to feed her whenever she comes to Lagos; that was why I went into armed robbery,”  the suspect confessed.

The Lagos state police commissioner revealed that they were able to apprehend the robbers off a tip on November 21 at 10pm. On that day the armed robbers were planning their operation in Lagos.

Agbakoba, SANs, Others Want IGP Sacked

Following the drama that took place at the National Assembly on Thursday, November 20, some Senior Advocates of Nigeria, including Olisa Agbakoba, Yusuf Ali and Niyi Akintola, have called for the removal of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Suleiman Abba.

The call was made over the IGP’s refusal to acknowledge Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal as the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Punch reports.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) on its own part, in a statement issued on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, alleged that Abba had shown that he was ‘partisan’ and would not be able to ensure a free and fair election in 2015.

“Abba is presiding over perhaps the most-partisan police force ever in the history of our nation. He has thrown professionalism, neutrality and fairness to the winds and made the police a willing tool in the hands of a frenzied executive. He cannot be trusted to ensure a level-playing field for all parties at the next general elections, hence he should be removed immediately,” the APC said.

Fashola Writes President Jonathan Over Task Force

Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State has written to President Goodluck Jonathan over the legality of the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme and Federal Road Maintenance Agency, SURE-P/FERMA task force.
Fashola disclosed this on Thursday, 27 November, 2014, while addressing police officers, businessmen and others, at the Eight Town Hall meeting on security, themed, “Maintaining our collective resolve in fighting crime,” held at the City Hall, Lagos Island axis of the state.
It would be recalled that there have been criticisms from the state government and the All Progressives Congress, APC on the SURE-P/FERMA task force for occupying the old toll gate axis of the state without observing due process.
The task force is expected to commence operation before the end of this year, 2014.

Speaking at the town hall meeting organised by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, LSSTF, Fashola lamented that the presence of the SURE-P/FERMA task force without any Government official accounting for their presence showed the laxity in the central government plan to fight insurgency.
The governor said: “I have written to President Goodluck Jonathan and I want action to be taken immediately. This is because when you gather people like that, without any clear mandate, it is a worrisome assembly.

Nigerian musician Femi Kuti is devasted after being taken aback that two kids he fathered are not biologically his.

He revealed in a one on one with Encomium Magazine a few days ago that after he ran DNA tests, he was informed that Dupe and Tosin are not his.

He doesn’t understand why a woman would deceive him.

Femi has five kids,  Made, Afolabi, Dupe, Tosin and Ayomide. Dupe and Tosin (boy and girl) have been revealed to not be his biological seeds.
Femi revealed his dissapointment that women he once caed about could deceive him.
He described how he came to the discovery.

He said: “I did a DNA test and was told two of the children are not mine. The first two (after Made), a boy and a girl.  It is very serious.  I never knew somebody could give you what is not yours.  I’ve three boys now. I can’t father children I was tricked to believe I am their father,” he lamented.

Five Reasons Jonathan's Second Term Will Be A Disaster

Less than three months before the 2015 general elections, a renowned advocacy writer, Prince Ken, has warned Nigerians not to re-elect incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan, saying Jonathan’s second term would be a national disaster.
In a bid to buttress his claim, Ken, in his opinion piece first published by Sahara Reporters, stated that public office holders often disguise and show less of their colour in first terms only to activate the beast in them in their second term when they think nothing is at stake.

The social issues analyst also gave five reasons he thinks President Jonathan should not be re elected among which are insecurity, Corruption, unemployment, high cost of education and poor infrastructure across the country.

Akala May Leave PDP

Indications are rife that former governor of Oyo State, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala, may dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2015 general elections, Nigerian Tribune reports.

A source close to the former governor told Nigerian Tribune that Alao-Akala is fed up with the turn out of events in the party as some members are desperate to hijack the party structure.

This, the source said, was not healthy for the party, adding that Alao-Akala supporters may force him to join another political party.The source added that the former governor considered as unfortunate, the way the national body of the party was taking sides  with his opponents within the party.Akala’s grouse with the national leadership of the party stems from the way the ward congress held on Monday in the state was allegedly manipulated.It was gathered that Akala travelled to Abuja on Wednesday evening, after he got a hint that the outcome of the ward congress would not favour me.

Officials of the Lagos State police command have arrested a member of a five-man gang who impersonated a renowned business mogul Aliko Dangote on Facebook.

This was made known on Wednesday by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Kayode Aderanti, while parading the suspect at the Command Headquarters, Ikeja, ThisDay reports.

He said the suspect was apprehended by the command’s Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS), adding that he impersonated Dangote on Facebook with the aim of kidnapping a beauty queen.
The commissioner of police said the supposed victim, 20 year-old Sa-adat Usman Bibire, was later discovered to be the daughter of the Special Adviser to the Kwara State Governor on Political Affairs.

OBJ: Why Jonathan Has Failed To Defeat Boko Haram

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has once again condemned incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan for not doing enough to bring an end to the Boko Haram insurgency in the country.
While speaking at the presentation of an autobiography of the former president of the Court of Appeal and pioneer chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), retired Justice Mustapha Akanbi in Abuja on Wednesday, the former Head of State stated that Jonathan does not have adequate understanding of the Boko Haram insurgency and being unable to proffer a response to the menace starring the nation in the face.
According to Obasanjo, “Boko Haram is not simply a menace based on religion or one directed to frustrate anybody’s political ambition but essentially a socio-economic problem that is tainted with religion.”

Oyo PDP Chieftains Petition Party

Some Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftains in Oyo State have reportedly petitioned the party’s Ward Congress Appeal Panel.

According to the petitioners which comprised seven governorship aspirants the congress never held and wondered how the election panel got a result and described it as an attempt to manipulate the congress to favour a former Senate Leader, Teslim Folarin.

Armed Robbers On Rampage In Obudu Town

The ancient town of Obudu in Cross River State was reportedly brought to a standstill on Wednesday when gunmen stormed  one of the leading commercial banks in the tourist town and carted away millions of Naira.
According to Sunnewsonline, the robbers, numbering more than 15 including two women, held the town hostage for about four hours, shooting sporadically to discourage a possible counter attack.
It was disclosed that the robbers were armed with dangerous weapons that included pump action, AK 47 rifles and hand grenade.

Investigation revealed that the armed robbers had quietly driven into the town at about 1.00pm on Wednesday from Vandikyia Road lead­ing to Benue State in a Si­enna space wagon bus and one Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV).

An eyewitness informed that on arrival, the two women in the gang took over the two major roads of Vandykia and hospital, firing into the air, while five men walked into the bank feigning to be customers and held every­body inside the banking hall hostage and the others surrounded the bank premises.
It was gathered that the robbers, after their nefarious act, went away from the bank with millions of Naira.
As at the time of compiling this report, attempts to reach the police authorities in the state to confirm the incident were unsuccessful.

Survey Claims Jonathan Will Win South-West In 2015

President Goodluck Jonathan electoral hopes in the South-West zone got a major boost recently as an opinion poll conducted by a political group, ‘Forerunners Group’, indicates that the President will win en-masse in the zone, Daily Independent reports.

The leadership of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, are using security operatives against members of the All Progressive Congress, APC, because it cannot match the strength of the opposition, this is according to one time Vice Presiden,t Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

Atiku made the statement on Wednesday while briefing APC members in Abakaliki, capital of Ebonyi State, on his presidential ambition and on the need for the party to remain strong and formidable during the 2015 general election.

Injury Knocks Victor Moses Out For Eight Weeks

The Stoke City’ player will not play competitively football till 2015 after sustaining a thigh injury that blights his impressive start to the 2014/15 season, BBC reports.
Moses currently on a season-long loan deal from Barclays English Premier League club, Chelsea faces at least eight weeks on the sidelines with what has been described by officials of Stoke City as ‘significant’ thigh injury.
The former Wigan Athletic man has been in fine form in recent weeks but was injured in the 2-1 Premier League defeat by Burnley on Saturday.

Speaking on the state of Moses’ injury, Stoke City’s assistant manager, Mark Bowen described the situation as “bad news”.
“It’s bad news on Victor Moses, a problem with his thigh,” Bowen said.

It was disclosed that the winger,  who has made 10 league appearances for the Potters this season scoring once and providing three assists, is not expected to be back in action for another “six to eight weeks” according to Bowen.

Last Saturday a strange accident happened in Harare, Zimbabwe. According to a report, a snake slithered to an ATM machine at Barclays Bank Angwa Street and then entered a car.

Passers-by surrounded the car to get a closer view of the snake and its owner. Others were busy taking photos from the onset and managed to capture pictures of the snake and the car that it later entered.

Nurse Who Killed 38 Patients Poses Next To Dead People

A month ago, Naij.com featured an article about a nurse, Daniela Poggiali, who was arrested by police on suspicion of killing her patients because she found them or their families annoying. It appears that the story has a continuation.

For several months Italian police investigated 38 deaths, including ten which have been described as ‘very suspicious’. The inquiry was sparked by the unexpected death of a 78-year-old patient who was admitted to a hospital with a routine illness.

Soyinka, who celebrated his 80th birthday in July, is a renowned and respected playwright, poet, essayist and activist. Born in Ogun State, he became the first African to have been awarded the Nobel prize in literature (1986).
Soyinka spoke about the ailment today at the June 12 Cultural Center in Ogun State. He said he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer last December, according to Sahara Reporters.
