It was gathered on Thursday by the Punch that the former minister of works, Engr. Christopher Aigbovbiosa Ogiemwonyi, has defected to the APC and would be formally received by the National Chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, and other leaders today (Friday).

Ogiemwonyi is expected to join the governorship race in Edo State in 2016. His official reception is scheduled to hold at the traditional Urhokpota hall, Ring Road Benin, Edo state capital.
The former minister is reportedly expecting supporters across the three senatorial districts of the state to grace the occasion. Other dignitaries expected at the event include the former Head of State, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as well as other leaders and members of the APC.

Ogiemwonyi revealed that he was motivated by the performance of the APC and the state governor in the transformation of Edo, and condemned the 10-year leadership of the PDP in the state that was disastrous for the people.

“People like to do comparative analysis. The PDP was in Edo for 10 years and APC is here now for six years. The boy in the University of Benin or Ekpoma will compare when the PDP was here and what they are seeing today. We are no more fools, nobody can come here and talk about using federal might to rig, the people of Edo State will decide. You are not coming to force anything on our throat, time has passed when one man will decide who becomes who in Edo State. Edo people are not fools. We are all giving support to Oshiomhole because of what he is doing in the state. Our people can see the difference. Look our roads with six lanes. Look at the Benin Water Storm project. Today flood no longer sack our people. If not for the bad state Oshiomhole met this state, we would have been comparing Edo to Lagos. Edo people will vote the APC come 2015 and 2016. I have no doubt about that,” Ogiemwonyi said.

Meanwhile, the former Minister of State for Works, Chief Chris Ogiemwonyi, is the ex-husband of Princess Stella Oduah, the former Minister of Aviation.

They separated a couple of years ago, and she removed his surname from hers, but you can still  come across the name ‘Stella Oduah-Ogiemwonyi’ in some publications.
