President Goodluck Jonathan
Vanguard reported that majority of Igbo leaders on Sunday shut down the motion for the adoption of President Jonathan when moved at the flour of its meeting.
Senator Chris Ngige, a member representing Anambra central senatorial zone, while speaking with journalists, revealed that the group has agreed to insulate Ohaneze from partisan politics.
“We will support no presidential candidate. We will be neutral because Ohaneze is made of people from diverse political parties. People who belong to parties should go their parties and canvass for their own candidates. They can talk to Nigerians from their own political parties and not from Ohanaeze,” he said.
The lawmaker further explained that such aspirants are allowed to canvass from the standpoint of their party and not from Ohaneze Nidigbo, insisting that the Mr. President’s endorsement will not be obtainable as agreed by the apex Igbo body.
It would be recalled that on November 8, 2014, a chieftain of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, expressed optimism that President Goodluck Jonathan, as a representative of the South South, will win next year’s Presidential election in Nigeria.
Meanwhile, on October 29, 2014, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Victor Umeh defended the adoption of Goodluck Jonathan, as sole aspirant in the 2015 presidential election after the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday, September 18, decided to adopt President Goodluck Jonathan as its sole candidate for 2015 presidential elections.
