Three Die In Kidnappers, Police Shootout in Anambra

Officials of the Anambra State police command on Sunday killed three suspected kidnappers during a shootout that ensued in a rescue operation. 

Vanguard reports that the six man gang engaged the state’s Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, in a gunfight at Okpoko in Ogbaru local government area of the state, which led to the death of three of the gang members.

This was made known by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Uche Ezeh, who also revealed that the security operatives successfully rescued their victim, one Mrs. Edith Maduekwe.
He said Mrs. Maduekwe, who was abducted by the suspects on October 4, 2014 at Oba in Idemili South local government area of the state was rescued at an erosion site in Oraukwu in Idemili North local government area.


The force spokesman further disclosed that the sum of seven hundred and seventy six thousand naira (N776, 000) were recovered from the suspects, which was part of the N1.4 million ransom paid by her family.

Ezeh listed items recovered from the suspects to include one AK-47 rifle with 90 rounds of ammunition, one pump action gun and 10 live cartridges, assorted charms and other weapons.

He also hinted that the gang leader known as Charlie Parker had been on the wanted list of the Police for four years, adding that the state SARS commander, Mr. James Nwafor, a Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP, swiftly acted on a tip-off, mobilized his men and stormed Okpoko, the place where the suspects were sharing their loot.

The command’s spokesman added that when they suspects sighted the police, they opened fire and the SARS officials had to return fire, killing three out of the six man gang.

It would be recalled that the Former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Okey Wali, who was by his abductors.
