Ex-Army Chief Proffers Solution To Boko Haram

Former Chief of Army Staff, General Salihu Ibrahim has proffered a solution to the unabated destruction of lives and property being perpetrated by the Boko Haram insurgency in the country.

According to the one time Nigerian army boss, community policing is the best way to curb the problem of insurgency in the north eastern part of the country.

The chairman of the Board of the Nigerian Shippers Council, NSC told Vanguard reporter in Lagos that all communities must cooperate with the security agencies to stop the destruction of lives and property in the country.

Ibrahim also implored residents in the north-eastern part of the country to ensure that they give useful information about strangers and unusual activities around their communities to the security agencies.

He said: "There is need to re-emphasise and educate the public more to pass on information about any unforeseen or unjust activities going on around them and if there are people, strangers in their midst, they should report such people to the police and the security agencies for clarification. Those in the villages must help in identifying who the bad guys are.

"The government is doing very well in trying to tackle the unfortunate security situation in our country.

"I think it seems to be diverting attention and eroding efforts of government and the people themselves, particularly in areas where these things are happening. Government must mobilise the public."
