Rise Up To Boko Haram Challenge, Mark Tells Armed Forces

The President of Nigerian Senate, David Mark, has charged the Nigerian Armed Forces to do everything within their might to overcome the insecurity challenge posed by the Boko Haram and keep Nigeria united at all times.

Mark made the statement on Monday in Abuja, after being decorated with Armed Forces remembrance emblem by the national coordinator of 2015 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, Brigadier-General Rogers Nicholas.

The Senate President stated that the unabating insecurity and terrorism were tearing the nation, adding that the Nigerian Armed Forces must fight harder to keep Nigeria secured.
Mark disclosed that insecurity situation in the country had become so worrisome that Nigerians seemed to be worried about their future.

He, however, noted that the Armed Forces “remains the last man standing in this difficult situation. It is, therefore, incumbent on our Armed Forces, to rise up to the challenge, in order to secure Nigeria and Nigerians.”
Mark assured the military that the government was conscious of the challenges facing them, especially in the North-East region.

The Senate President made it know to the Armed Forces that the Federal Government was prepared to improve on their welfare, including provision of modern equipment to fight the war.

He also tasked the military to propose a legislation to the National Assembly on how to provide for the upkeep of members of the families of the fallen heroes, who died in the course of fighting to keep Nigeria united.

Mark stated that this legislation had become imperative, so that efforts of the nation’s heroes would not be in vain.

According to him, such heroes deserved national honours for their gallantry, having died so that we might live.

While speaking at the occasion, Brigadier-General Nicholas told the Senate President that the annual event was to remember the supreme sacrifices of the nation’s fallen heroes, who fought to keep Nigeria together.

He added that whatever proceeds was realised from the sale of the emblem would be channelled to the upkeep of dependants of fallen heroes.
