The warning was contained in a letter with reference number OGE/EK/ADM/ 094 dated October 10, 2014, which was signed by the Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Transition Committee, Chief Dipo Anisulowo, and sent to the Managing Director of the bank in Lagos.
The governor- elect hinted that the said loan was being secure to pay the severance allowances of the political office holders in the state. He also raised the alarm over the alleged illegal transfer of over N856 million from SUBEB project account number 0065385894 with Access Bank Plc to another illegal account.
“The said money was the state counterpart contributions to the Federal Government Intervention Funds,” he said.
It is one of the lies they are telling to confuse the people. If we could not take loan to pay salary which is statutory, how can we take loan to pay severance allowances,” he said.
Fayose expressed more disappointment over Fayemi’s action, in a letter with reference number EKSUBEB/PS/400/41 said: “Please be informed that with the going UBEC financial regulations, it is absolutely unethical to transfer any part of the fund that is available for SUBEB/UBEC project execution in the state without valid instruction. This move will definitely diminish the reputation of the state as one of the most performing states in the federation.”
The governor-elect stated that giving such loans to an administration that has less than four days to step down was very doubtful.
In a related development, the state’s PDP has taken a swipe at the revered Nobel Laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka over his alleged comment that he doubts whether the incoming government has the integrity to march Fayemi’s achievement in Ekiti State.
The condemnation was contained in a statement signed by the state PDP Publicity Secretary, Pastor Kola Oluwawole, who warned Soyinka, as an elder statesman must be mindful of his comments and stop casting aspersions on a highly revered personality like Fayose or act in a manner that would portray him as being incurable partisan.
Meanwhile, the presidency may have ordered security operatives in Ekiti State to ensure that courts in the state are shut until the inauguration of the state’s governor-elect, Ayo Fayose on 16 October, 2014. The decision was taken after thugs alleged to be loyal to Fayose invaded the premises of the headquarters of the State Judiciary.
