Keshi Happy With Eagles Defenders
Nigeria head coach, Stephen Keshi, has said he has been tracking the performances of his defensive players and he is happy with their progress at their different clubs.
He told supersport.com that he is delighted that Nigerian international defenders are pulling their weights with their clubs and hopes they will stay fit up till when the Fifa World Cup kicks off in Brazil in June this year.
The form of Joseph Yobo since joining Norwich City has excited the 52-year-old Nigerian manager.
“Defensively we have some of the best players. I am happy with the progress and form of our defenders so far. They’ve showed they can compete at the highest levels with their respective clubs and I’m glad with that.
“At the moment, I’m only praying that they all stay healthy up till the World Cup because that will be key for us in doing well in Brazil.
“Also I’m happy to see Joseph playing very well (with Norwich City) and that’s why I have kept saying he remains part of my plans and captain of the national team,” Keshi, who played as a defender for Nigeria during his time as player, said to supersport.com.
The Nigerian men’s national team head coach has called up eight defenders for the international friendly match against Mexico on March 5.
The defenders are Yobo, Elderson Echiejile, Efe Ambrose, Godfrey Oboabona, Azubuike Egwuekwe, Kenneth Omeruo, Juwon Oshaniwa and Kunle Odunlami.
