A school proprietor, Mr. Lemmy Amachi Chukwu, 53, was on Monday remanded in prison by a Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting at Akwete in Abia State for allegedly raping a 12-year-old primary five pupil of his school.
Police prosecutor, Chris Kpatuma, who is also the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Ukwa East Police Division, told the court that Chukwu committed the offence on February 20.
It was gathered that immediately the accused committed the offence, he went into hiding and the police had to place manhunt on him.
The police, however, arrested the accused when he came out from hiding, thinking that the matter had died down.
The prosecution told the court that the accused, who also teaches at Mkporobe Primary school in Ukwa East Local Government, invited the pupil to his office where he forcibly had canal knowledge of her.
Kpatuma prayed the court not to grant the accused bail since it took the police time to arrest him, adding that he would likely jump bail.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge and the presiding Chief Magistrate remanded him in Aba Prisons while the case was adjourned till Friday.
