Georgewill
was stabbed to death at about 8.45pm on Accra Street in Port Harcourt
by his assailants, who took to their heels after carrying out their
operation.
It was gathered that the deceased, who
represented Ward 2 as a councillor in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area,
was a member of the All Progressives Congress.
The
councillor, who left a wife and two children behind, was said to have
come out of his residence to wait for an unidentified person that called
him on his mobile phone.
An eyewitness disclosed
that Georgewill was hacked down as he approached a vehicle that waited
for him in front of his residence.
His assailants, it was learnt, shot into the air to scare passersby away before zooming off with their Toyota Camry vehicle.
“Sotonye
came out of his house after someone called him through his mobile phone
and said he was waiting in front of the house. But two men came out of
the car when he (Sotonye) got closer to it and one of them stabbed him
on the chest and he fell on the ground immediately. The killers then
shot into the air to scare people away before escaping,” the eyewitness,
who preferred anonymity, said.
He, however,
expressed suspicion that the murder of the councillor could be
politically motivated, adding that Georgewill’s death could not have
been without a reason since nothing was stolen from him.
The
deceased, according to one of his relatives, lived in his grandfather’s
house in Old Port Harcourt Town before he met his untimely death.
The State Police Public Relations, Mr. Ahmad Mohammad, said he was not in Port Harcourt and could not speak on the matter.
