Nyako, Fintiri Disagree Over Impeachment Process

The ousted Governor of Adamawa State, Mr. Murtala Nyako and the recently sacked Acting Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, have clashed over comments credited to the former.

Daily Trust reports that Nyako and Fintiri expressed different opinions on development that led to the sacking of the acting governor from office.

It was reported that Nyako through his spokesperson, Ahmad Sajoh, issued a congratulatory statement to the newly sworn in governor of the state, Mr. Bala Ngilari over his Federal High Court victory.

Nyako in the statement said Ngilari’s victory is a demonstration of the illegality committed by the House of Assembly under the leadership of Fintiri which led to the process of impeaching him.
“This is a further testimony to the fact that the entire process associated with the purported impeachment saga had been just series of acts characterized by extreme illegality and political brigandage,” Nyako said.

It was reported that Nyako expressed optimism that he would be reinstated by the court following the legal victory that was granted Ngilari. He said the process of the reversal of all the series of illegalities connected with the supposed impeachment saga has only just commenced and will continue until it culminates with the return of Governor Nyako to Government House, Yola.
Reacting to the aforementioned assertion, Fintiri, through his press secretary, Solomon Kumangar, accused Nyako of ‘unprovoked attack’ on the legislative arm of government.

He reiterated that the lawmakers gave Nyako several opportunities to defend himself before the House of Assembly or rather appear before 7 man panel set up by the state Chief Judge, but Nyako squandered it by vehemently refusing to answer to the allegations levied against him as he was consumed by his disdain for the legislature and judiciary.

“I must make it abundantly clear that the impeachment process that led to the ouster of the former governor followed due process and was completely guided by the constitution. The state legislature exhausted all available avenues for conflict resolution before resorting to its last option, which was impeachment. Those shedding crocodile tears and using propaganda to blackmail the state legislature are engaged in a baseless and futile action,” Kumangar said.
