They were taken to a nearby bush where they tied the husband and forcefully collected the baby from the wife who was at that time breast feeding her. After which they took turns in raping the woman as her husband watched helplessly and her baby cried profusely.
The woman was said to have fainted after the ordeal but later regained consciousness and walked to a nearby village, where she informed a group of vigilantes, who later rescued the husband.
After receiving the report, two of the robbers, whose names were given as Vincent Oguche and Femi Simon were tracked down by a police patrol team led by Mr. Mbang Eteng, an Assistant Superintendent of Police and arrested at an uncompleted building.
During interrogation, both suspects confessed to the crime, blaming their action on drugs. “We were not in our right sense because we were very high on drugs“, Vincent explained.
They later led the detectives to their hideout, where the stolen car, assorted guns and handsets were recovered. They gave the names of two other members of the gang as Friday Oguche and Joe Agbo.
Parading the suspects before newsmen, the Acting Commissioner of Police, Mr Abiodun Odude said the case was reported at the Olamaboro Police Division.
The police are still on the trail of the remaining four members who are still at large.
