Dr. Bukola Saraki, a member of the Nigerian senate representing Kwara central senatorial district has said he will make his intention to contest for the 2015 presidential election known at the right time.
The senator made the statement while responding to rumours of his ambition to contest for the Presidency in 2015.
Speaking with Daily Independent reporter on Monday, after a stakeholders’ meeting of the Kwara State branch of the All Progressives Congress (APC), he explained that the fight was not of a personal ambition as alleged in some quarters by some persons blackmailing and criticising him.
The senator while speaking on the just concluded governorship election in Ekiti and Osun states’ praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting a generally acceptable election in Osun State, and charged the electoral body to maintain the standard in 2015 election.
According to him, INEC’s performance in the aforementioned elections indicated that it has improved in conducting polls.
Saraki, however, lamented the ruling party’s constant arrest of opposition members during election, noting that it was not the right way to win election instead the electorate should be allowed to exercise their franchise to choose who will govern them.
“The integrity and credibility of INEC can be sustained if it repeats the same feat of credible election nationwide by next year” Saraki said.
It would be recalled that Dr. Bukola Saraki, who is a former Governor of Kwara State and a chieftain of the APC had on August 14, 2014, expressed optimism that the party will record unprecedented victory come 2015 elections. The senator, who is described as generous man on July 2, 2014, distributed raw foods items worth about N80 million to the people of his constituency.
