The women, who wore black attire and marched round major streets in Port Harcourt, specifically condemned the killing of innocent students of Federal Government College, Buni Yadi in Yobe State by members of the Boko Haram sect.

The protesters carried placards with inscriptions like ‘Have we lost our humanity’, Stop the killing’, ‘Our hearts are heavy’, ‘We are saying no to killing of innocent souls’ and ‘We reject the rape on our land.’
The leader of the protesting women, Mrs. Barakumo Egba, while speaking with newsmen shortly after the exercise said the protest was aimed at drawing the attention of the appropriate authority to their sorrow.

According to Egba, “This is not a particular organisation. We are representing every group of women. We are just Nigerian women. Our counterparts all over the country and even those in Diaspora are going on this protest walk.

“So we thought it necessary to also join. I am sure you are all aware that the Boko Haram sect last week attacked a Federal Government College in Yobe."

Former  Commissioner for Women Affairs, Pastor Emmanuella Izunwa expressed the need for Nigerians from any part of the country to cohabit as nationals.

Izunwa said, “We need to live like a family in this country. The walk is to send a message across that women are not happy with what is happening and we prayed that the senseless killings should stop.
