As the countdown continues (31 days left) The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential campaign team took their rally to Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, in their quest for victory in the upcoming 2015 presidential election.

PDP who recently took the leadership in Ekiti State from the All Progressives Congress, APC, at the governorship level with Governor Fayose taking over power welcomed the President Goodluck Jonathan and his campaign team to state capital on January 13, 2014, Tuesday.

According to Punch, The All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State lambasted Governor Ayodele Fayose for declaring yesterday (January 13, 2014) as holiday for civil servants to enable them attend a political rally. This according to the APC State Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatubosun is unprofessional and against the civil service rule.

However, special adviser on information to Governor Fayose, Mr. Lanre Ogunsuyi, said the allegation was “arrant nonsense” saying that no worker was ordered to attend the rally.
Speaking at the event, Governor Fayose accused the All Progressive Congress, APC of going about campaigning violently.

In his words; “They have been going about with a campaign of violence but they should know that nobody has the monopoly of violence. They changed the tone of their campaign when they heard our message”.

The Ekiti governor also blasted former president, Olusegun Obasanjo who according to him does not represent the voice of the Yoruba people.

“Obasanjo does not represent the voice of the Yoruba people,” he said.
“I listened to the Oba of Lagos speaking on corruption. We all know who is corrupt. Look at the money he shared during his third term,” he added.
President Goodluck Jonathan’s entry to the podium sparked the crowd to delirium.

The president warned the PDP supporters to be wary of bad politicians who are out there to deceive.

In his words; ‘’ A number of people are out to deceive us,” Jonathan says.
”We have been following politicians since the 50s, 60s, 70, 80s, 90s up till now.
Tony Wilson, a musician, has a song which paints politicians as liars, but we are not like that in the PDP. If I say I would do this and I do not do it, I would explain to you why I could not.

“Those of us outside this state believe that out of every three families in Ekiti, one has a professor.
“Ekiti alone has more than 60% professors of the entire country. This is a fountain of knowledge but are you not surprised that your state did not have any federal university until my time.

“Nobody begged me before I established a university in Ekiti. We have been creating opportunities for the young men and women of this country.

“Ekiti state is a great state. Ekiti state is the fountain of knowledge. “We will encourage you, we will work with you, and we need your support. Thank you..” he concluded.
After a successful outing in Oyo and Ogun states respectively, President Goodluck Jonathan and his campaign team arrival in Ekiti marks the 5th state that the PDP has visited as part of its nationwide campaign tour.
