Osun State governor, Rauf Aregbesola has yesterday replied to Vice President Sambo rallying call that PDP can win the state back, describing the remark as “mere wishful thinking”.
Aregbesola and Omisore
The All Progressives Congress, APC candidate for the August 9 governorship election said that the Sambo disrespected the judgment of the Election Petition Appeal Tribunal by describing their ruling as “through the back door.”
The vice president had told reporters before their important PDP National Campaign Committee meeting that Aregbesola had come in power though the back door and also said that come August 9th, his party would get back the team.
Mr. Aregebsola gave his statement through his Director, Bureau of Communication and Strategy, Semiu Okanlawon, and said that Sambo might be mistaken as Osun state citizens have for some time now given up on PDP.
The statement continued and ridiculed Sambo’s quotes as quotes of a party full of delusion and deceit.
It read: “Sambo’s statement did not come to us as a surprise. It is the character of the PDP and its leadership to live in a different world far away from the stark realities that daily confront our people”.
“For the umpteenth time, we wish to remind Sambo and the entire
PDP structure and its candidate for the Osun August 9 poll that Osun has
remained different for so many reasons and this is why the macabre
dance PDP and its agents of electoral fraud organised in Ekiti cannot be
replayed here in Osun.
“Has Sambo forgotten so soon that while PDP reaped from its electoral fraud in all parts of Nigeria in the 2011 election, it was only in Osun that PDP recorded its most humiliating defeat. In case Sambo has not thought about this that was less than six months of the Aregbesola administration when not much had been put on ground in form of sterling performance and massive transformation of Osun.”
The statement then went ahead and praised the governor’s perfomance saying that in the last three years, Osun state citizens had witnessed unprecedented development, Peace and more financial growth.
They also asked Sambo and PDP to apologize to the nation and especially the people of Osun state for the way they stole Aregbesola’s mandate in 2007.
It stated, “In some saner climes, PDP and its leaders ought to apologise to the entire country and the people of Osun in particular for the trauma they were subjected due to the robbery of the Aregbesola’s mandate. “But the culture of impunity which PDP promotes won’t give room for such decency. It must however be noted that never will our people embrace the rule of terror and clueless which PDP represents.”
Governor Aregbesola was elected into office after a tribunal judged the 2007 election as fraud and awarded him the position of governor replacing then incumbant Oyinlola.
Aregbesola began his stay in office in 2014 and is going for re-election against PDP’s candidate, Iyiola Omisore.
PDP’s Fayose led team just won the governorship election in Ekiti and are now aiming to capture one more yoruba state in Osun ahead of the crucial 2015 General elections.
