Edo State Deputy Speaker, Festus Ebea who was recently suspended is now impeached for alleged misconduct and misdemeanour. Ebea will be replaced by elected Victor Edoror, ChannelsTV reported.
Festus Ebea
It would be recalled that the on June 9 the Deputy Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Mr. Festus Ebea, along with three other members Friday Ogieriakhi (Orhionmwon South) Jude Ise-Idehen (Ikpoba-Okha) and Patrick Osayimwen (Oredo East) of the house were suspended for alleged misconduct which in turn reportedly led to a crisis.
Prior to his suspension, the suspended lawmakers had decamped from the All Progressives Congress to the Peoples Democratic Party.
The impeachment of the deputy speaker was, however carried out by 15 lawmakers belonging to the APC who sat for plenary, but was signed by 16 lawmakers at the Old Assembly Complex inside the Edo State Government House as a result of renovations currently going on at the premises of the Edo State House of Assembly.
The Speaker of the House, Uyi Igbe, said: “This renovation work going on there was caused by the fact that the former Deputy Speaker and a group of aides forcibly entered the place, destroying doors and windows. Of course, we had to repair them and put them back to shape.”
He also stated that the chamber would be ready for use within three to four weeks as that they will have to continue carrying out their duties in the old Chambers for now and that the crisis has not stopped them from working.
Meanwhile, it appears the deputy speaker wasn't the only one suspended as it was reported on June 10 that the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Uyi Igbe, was also suspended by members of the PDP lawmakers who stormed the assembly complex in an unmarked bus and broke into the hallowed which was under lock and key with the assistance of a mobile policeman.
It would be recalled it was reported on June 22 that unknown gunmen attacked the convoy of the impeached Edo Deputy Speaker, Mr. Festus Ebea.
