The woman, who onlookers said was dressed like a mad woman and had been seen for three days around the area with a dead child strapped at her back was almost lynched by a crowd of people when the dead boy was recovered from her with popped eyeballs. According to Vanguard, the middle-aged woman, who was simply identified as Florence had two big locally made travel bags (Ghana-must-go) in her possession which included various personal effects, charms and beverages.
Although it was reported that the woman got caught dragging the bags which contained the body of the dead boy by a policeman who was curious to know what could have been so heavy in the bag that the supposed mad looking woman could not carry.
The decomposing dead body of the little boy
When interrogated, Florence broke down debunking she’s a mad woman. According to her, the dead boy is the last of her three children. She told newsmen how she had come to Lagos to find help so as to take care of her son’s health which was to no avail. The Lagos born, who claimed she is from Umo in Kwale area of Delta State and who also claimed she does not have any relative in Lagos could not however provide neither her husband’s phone number nor any relative’s when asked by passersby at the Oshodi/Apapa Expressway around Mile 2.
Although Policemen have taken the woman away for further investigations, the woman did not however escape being beaten by the crowd. But for the prompt response of the men of the police force, She would have been set ablaze. It could be recalled that two men were arrested few days ago by the Abia State’s command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps with a dead baby girl in a sack.
