Jay Jay Okocha
The former Super Eagles' skipper Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha told Supersport that Stephen Keshi’s resignation will be one of “the craziest decision we will ever make as a nation”.
Okocha, who hailed Keshi as the “best indigenous coach Nigeria ever had”, insisted that Keshi deserves to stay longer with the team.
“I don’t think his future is in doubt. Keshi's exit must be the craziest decision we will ever make as a nation. He will come out of this competition as a better coach though.” Okocha said.
The former Nigeria international also argued that as long as Keshi is in charge of the national team, results will get better with time while adding that: “The future looks bright for me. He has gone about the business the right way by going back to our local league to pick the next Keshi, Mikel and Omokachi in the future.“He is planning well for the future for Nigeria. He is on the right track.”
It was reported that Stephen Keshi took to twitter on July 1 to confirm that he quit the Super Eagles following Nigeria's loss in a match against France.
The news that Keshi quit the team first broke out on June 30, following Nigeria vs France 0-2 defeat.
Meanwhile, following the report of his resignation, Stephen Keshi, made a statement today, denied the report making rounds saying he has not resigned.
He said: "I was a bit shocked that the global media went to town to say I have called it quits with the national team. Resignations are not done on the pages of newspapers but formally."
Other members of the super eagles team who have also quit include the captain, Joseph Kobo and Osaze Odewingie.
