A delegate from Oyo State at the ongoing National conference in Abuja, Niyi Akintola, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest at the venue of the conference.

According to Premium Times report, the incident occurred while Mr. Akintola, was inside the gallery listening to the debate on the report of the Committee on Political Restructuring and Forms of Government, which was earlier presented by Ike Nwachukwu.
Two nurses and security operatives were said to have rushed to his aid and moved him out of the chamber but it was impossible to get him out of the National Judicial Institute (NJI), where the conference is taking place with the Police ambulance attached to the Conference, as the route was blocked by cars belonging to other delegates, who were struggling to also leave the premises.
When it became obvious that the ambulance could not get to him, a waiting delegate offered his car and Mr Niyi was rushed out of the premises.
It was, however, not possible to ascertain the medical facility where Mr. Akintola was taken as at the time of this report even as the conference secretary said the delegate suffered from a cardiac arrest.
Since the national conference began, three delegates have died while some others have collapsed during plenary sittings.
Recall that a delegate of the Market Women Associations, Ifeyinwa Ezenwa, had slumped in April shortly after the Conference resumed for the afternoon session.
Also, a delegate representing Association of Retired Police Officers of Nigeria, ARPON, Mamman Misau, had died during the first week of the Conference.
