Obasanjo Condemns Chibok Girls Abduction

Olusegun Obasanjo on Monday condemned the abduction of more than 250 female students from Government Secondary School in Chibok, Borno.

"Whatever the grievances, objectives and anger of this group of people who are behind this abduction, they should not have acted on these innocent girls," said Obasanjo when signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Jigawa Government to adopt a junior secondary school and a primary school in Kudai, Dutse.

The former president urged the kidnappers to release the innocent girls unconditionally.

Obasanjo commiserated with the girls' parents, and added that people should not be discouraged to send their female children to school and give them good education.

Nigerian government and the international community have been trying to rescue the girls who were kidnapped four weeks ago by the Boko Haram Islamist sect.

Also today the terrorists issued a video that reportedly showed the missing girls. In the video, the sect's leader announced options for the girls' release.
