During the interview with Uruguay’s President Jose Mujica at a state-run TV sports show, one of the journalists asked: "What does this World Cup mean to you?"

The president said: "Those at FIFA are a gang of old sons of bitches." He gasped and put his hand to his mouth in an I-can’t-believe-that-I said-that manner, but smiled. "They could have sanctioned him, but not with fascist sanctions."

Mujica had welcomed Suarez at Montevideo airport when he arrived individually ahead of the team on Friday, before proclaiming the punishment "an eternal shame" in the history of the World Cup in his weekly radio address.

Speaking after the Colombia defeat, Uruguay captain Diego Lugano called the ban an act of "barbarity" that breaches the player's human rights.

"It's a breach of human rights that a player cannot go into a stadium where there are 80,000 people or into a hotel with his teammates, that he cannot work for four months. He has committed a crime, but this ban is barbarity. Not even a criminal would receive this penalty."

It would be recalled that on June 24. It was his third offense of biting an opponent. Fifa slapped Suarez with a four month ban on all football activities, a nine match international suspension
