2015: Jonathan Gets Endorsement, Key PDP Members Absent

The North-West chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan for the 2015 presidential election slated for February.

Punch reports that the endorsement took place at a stakeholders’ meeting held at the late Gen. Hassan Katsina Hall, Kawo in Kaduna State.

The leadership and members of the party in the zone urged the president to surrender himself for the continued service to the nation in 2015.


However, it was also reported that the meeting saw the absence of some chieftains of the zone comprising the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal;   Governor Sule Lamido (Jigawa); his Katsina counterpart, Shehu Shema; and the Minister of Education, Ibrahim Shekarau.



Although no reason had been given for their action but a source, alleged that the absence of Lamido could be connected to his speculated presidential ambition as well as Shema, who is said to be eyeing the seat of the Vice President.
The meeting had in attendance; the National Chairman of the PDP, Adamu Mu’azu; the National Oganising Secretary,  Abubabkar Mustapha; the zonal Chairman, Ambassador Adamu Kazaure; the Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Mukhtar Shagari; and Maj-Gen. Mohammed Magaro (retd) among others.
Speaking at the meeting, Mu’azu, stated that PDP is constant as the northern star and remained a party to defeat. He urged members to be united so as to deliver the zone in 2015.

In his remark, Kebbi State Governor Usman Dankingari, promised that his colleagues would deliver the zone to PDP in 2015.
“The zone which is the most sophisticated and populous and other parts of the North will be delivered to the party in 2015,” Dankingari said.

According to Wali, Jonathan had done a lot to merit a second term from the people of the zone, adding that PDP under Jonathan administration remained a party to beat due to the landmark achievements in all sectors.
Wali also noted that the zone would remain grateful to Jonathan, following the infrastructural development, good governance and promotion of democracy in the country.

Meanwhile, the PDP has expressed fears over ,  although Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential flag-bearer in next year’s elections.
