Ikimi, a founding member of the APC had defected to the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) last week and upon leaving he
decided to open a can of worms, accusing many of the leaders of his
former party, especially former Governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu, of
imposing unnecessarily on party members.
Replying to Ikimi through his media office in Lagos, Tinubu said he has seen the former minister carry out his devious acts in his years as in public life, Premium Times reports.
Tinubu explained that the APC could not make Ikimi its Chairman because of his past evils and if they had appointed him Chairman, they would have had to sleep with their eyes wide open lest he sells off the party before day break.
He said: “It was clear to practically everyone who had the interest of the party at heart that we simply could not have a man of Tom Ikimi’s antecedents as Chair of the party.

“Who in their right mind would compare the highly principled
Chief Bisi Akande, or Chief Oyegun with a Tom Ikimi? Either of these two
men are known for their no-nonsense styles, not once in their careers
would you hear that they betrayed a cause or were anybody’s stooge.”
According to Tinubu, Ikimi was never sincerely committed to the APC and was always playing out the script of the PDP.
He added that Ikimi was only interested in the chairmanship of the party as bargaining chip for negotiations with his benefactors.
Speaking on his defection, Tinubu said: “His defection purportedly on account of the loss of the chairmanship of the party is a mere subterfuge, once his ploy failed he had no other objective within the party, I knew he would go back to his sponsors. He is back in the company he deserves. And APC is better for it.”
Chief Tom Ikimi officially quit his party, APC on August 26.
Some months back, he had accused Tinubu of imposing on himself the power to decide for the party who should emerge as the national executives, adding that Tinubu single- handedly appointed Chief John Odigie-Oyegun as the party’s National Chairman.
