The have cried out to the Imo state government and Catholic Archbishop of Owerri Ecclesiastical Province Dr. Anthony Obinna saying that their off springs have turned against them.
They told Vanguard that they are being raped and molested by our own children during a recent visit to the Catholic Archbishop at the Maria Assumpta Catholic Cathedral in Owerri.
They said: “We are raped and molested by our own children. You cannot come to Mgbuishii and return home safely because of the crime rate.”
The women also said that they have already cried and complained to the Imo state administration but their pleads have fallen to deaf ears.
They said: “We are angry because government is not looking at our
direction at all. We have been completely abandoned for years. Now we
have no good roads, no electricity, no market, nothing is going on in
our place. To make things worse, we are now suffering from insecurity.”
They say that their little community is lacking strong Police presence and they are suffering from it.
The women said that the police men they have are beaten up by their kids, when ever they try to intervene.
They said: “Each time we report cases to the police and they manage to send their men at all, the criminals beat them(policemen) up because they (criminals) parade more sophisticated weapons than what the policemen have. We needed police escort to get here (Maria Assumpta Cathedral) and we will also need them to go back home.”
The women also said that as at now, plans are in motion to relocate to Rivers state and leave the community for their immoral sons and daughters.
“Even the Reverend Father in our place is complaining and threatening to go away. About two weeks ago, some reverend sisters visited our place and were waylaid on the road and robbed. We have a lot of problems and that is why the women have come to complain to the Archbishop, who is our father in the lord,” they said.
The Archbishop then prayed for the brave women and thanked them for taking the huge risk of coming to report these atrocious crimes.
A special opinion poll conducted by the NOIPolls Limited in April 2014 revealed that revealed that 3 in 10, representing 31 per cent of respondents who participated, personally knew of a victim of child rape in their local communities.
