PDP Accuses Fayemi Of Fraudulent Activities

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ekiti State chapter, has accused the incumbent governor of the state, Kayode Fayemi, of selling valuable assets and properties of the state at give away prices.

The opposition party in Ekiti said this in a statement made available to journalists in Ado-Ekiti by its Publicity Secretary, Pastor Kola Oluwawole on Sunday, 31 August, 2014.
According to the statement, the PDP alleged that Ekiti properties are being sold to chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and cronies of Governor Fayemi.

The party also accused some top officials in the state’s Housing Corporation and the Directorate of Lands and Planning of conniving with APC leaders and top functionaries of the administration to perpetrate the fraud.
The PDP added that the fraudulent sale of properties included government assets in the state as well as some located in Abuja and Lagos.

It listed the affected properties to include parcels of land and houses at Irewolede Estate Phases I and II, Ado-Ekiti as well as pieces of land and houses at Obasanjo Housing Estate, Ikere Road, Ado-Ekiti, while vehicles and state properties in Abuja and Lagos were not left out.

“Lands at Irewolede and Obasanjo Estates are for Housing Development Scheme, not Site and Serviced, with Certificates of Occupancy (CofO) of the estates already used by the Ekiti State Housing Corporation to apply for N1.5 billion mortgage facility from the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) out of which less than N1 billion has been approved, waiting for payment to the Ekiti State Housing Corporation.

“Now,  plots of land at Irewolede Phase II and Obasanjo Estate are being sold to Fayemi’s cronies at a very ridiculous price of N200,000, while the houses at Irewolede Phase I are being allocated to political appointees and Fayemi’s cronies at a give away price of N6 million instead of the N12 million placed on the property by official valuer.

“By selling the lands, Fayemi is wickedly denying Ekiti people the opportunity of getting the FMBN facility with which the in-coming PDP government will be build houses at the Estates and sold to the people at affordable prices.

“Even Fayemi’s aides who bought Maisonettes at Irewolede Phase I in 2012 are now being asked to pay N6 million as against N12 million that the building was allocated to them,” the statement read.
The opposition party added; “The same black market sale is being carried out on government lands at the Obasanjo Housing Estate along Ikere-Ekiti road, built during Dr. Ayo Fayose’s first term as governor of Ekiti State in 2005.”

The PDP further noted that virtually all government vehicles both new and fairly used were being fraudulently auctioned at unimaginable prices that could not be justified by any standard.
“We are compelled to raise this alarm because the outgoing government has not hidden its vengeance mission since it lost the June 21 governorship election to our candidate, Dr Ayodele Fayose, by choosing to pursue policies and actions that would be detrimental not only to the smooth take-off of the incoming PDP government, but also to the development of the state as a whole.
“It is pertinent to remind all the sons and daughters of Ekiti State that the government of the APC which has six weeks to expire, is without any element of doubt, displaying all these disdainful characteristics and embarking on a mission of revenge because of its outright rejection at the poll, without taking into consideration the adverse effects it will have on the generality of the people of the state and the long term repercussions even to members of the party that produced the failed government.

“While we believe in prosperity for all Ekiti people, it is incumbent on us as a party to alert the people who have shown great love to us by giving the mandate to our candidate, Dr Ayodele Fayose, on the danger of the retrogressive steps being taken by the Fayemi administration aimed at bringing the state on its knees before the APC government will bow out.”

The PDP however, promised that all the atrocities and bad policies being perpetrated by Governor Fayemi would be revisited by the incoming government of Dr. Ayodele Fayose.
It warned beneficiaries of such fraudulent and insincere transactions to see such as ‘Greek gifts’ laced with poison and one that would not last.
While reacting to the allegation, Ekiti State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Tayo Ekundayo, described all the allegations as untrue.

He charged the PDP to show proof, saying: “I am not aware of such and if they are sure of their fact, they should wait till October 16, when they take over and revoke such properties.
“But I don’t think a sensible government would start selling properties of the state because it is leaving office. Such allegation is senseless and unsubstantiated and should not be taken seriously.”
It would be recalled that

The governor elect is expected to resume office on 16 October after the tenure of Governor Fayemi would have expired.
After Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, announced the result of the election,
