According to reports, a political group under the PDP, ‘The Imole
Group’ has threatened to dump the party over non fulfillment of agreed
slots to the group.
The threat was contained in a statement issued by the group in Abeokuta, the State capital at the weekend.
It said, “The Imole Group’ and its over 150,000 members throughout the state left the All Progressives Congress (APC) due to the high-handedness of the incumbent governor Senator Ibikunle Amosun, and his failure to recognise the party organ in the state upon his emergence.”
According to the group, before its members decided to join the PDP, an agreement was reached with the party where the group was promised one senatorial slot, three House of Representatives’ slots, and eight House of Assembly slots, predicated on a 60/40 per cent agreement.
“This depicts an attendant height of deceit unprecedented in our
sojourn politically as a group and as such we may be necessitated to
deal with any other political party willing to show sincerity to our
course as a group,” it added.
The group, therefore, added that “this is inimical to the growth of the party and all these atrocious deeds are an open secret in Ogun state.
“Hence if all effort to correct this situation should fail at the top echelon of the PDP we may be left with no choice than to move out with all our over 150, 000 registered members to a more peaceful and secured political party once negotiation is concluded and be assured in clear terms that PDP has lost out in Ogun State.”
The group, therefore, called on the national leadership of the PDP to resolve situation amicably in order to avert a mass exodus of people from the party.
Meanwhile, a former chairman of the Ogun State chapter of the PDP, Chief Joju Fadairo, at the weekend, declared that there was no crisis whatsoever in the state chapter of the party as being insinuated in some quarters.
Speaking with Nigerian Tribune, Chief Fadairo, who is a close relation of former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, also debunked the speculation making the round that the former president, alongside his supporters, had dumped the party for an undisclosed political party in the state.
“Baba Obasanjo remains a committed member of PDP and he is working tirelessly to see it triumph in all the elections. There is no crisis in Ogun PDP, what we have is mere misunderstanding and we have been able to come together and resolve the misunderstanding.
“Recently, a committee was set up, we called it unification committee and I was the Chairman of that committee. We brought the two warring sides together and united them. We had a unification rally and ever since then, we have been working together,” he explained.
