Matthew Ajibade, who had bipolar disorder, died in custody after he “became combative during the booking process,” the police alleged.

During the alleged jail altercation, three police officers were reportedly injured, including a female sergeant who suffered a concussion and broken nose, authorities said.

Ajibade’s family are disputing the story of the police and are demanding to know why he died. They described Matthew as a much-loved “geeky kid.”

Ajibade’s family has gone ahead to hire Mark O’Mara, a CNN legal analyst who once represented George Zimmerman in the death of Florida teen Trayvon Martin.
