According to Daily Independent the drama broke at the Bayero University Kano (BUK) old campus after the politician finished the official engagement in the University.

It all started when the thugs in their dozens beat the security around the official.

Heavily armed men were shouting “Bamuayi Bamuayi Bamuayi” which meant “we are no longer with you”, while other shouted “mungaji da aiki banza”, meaning “we are tired of the job”.
It took time for Sambo, who was shocked with the development, to pull himself together .

The Assistant Inspector General of police in charge of zone 1, Tambari Yabo, ordered his men to disarm the protesting thugs. Apparently realizing the consequences of resisting the disarmament order by the top Corp, the men gave up the weapons.

The negotiations started and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwarts urged “the boys” to explain their behaviour.

The assaulters lamented that they had risked their lives to keep the positions of the party in the state, but “no one has paid them a dime despite promises”. The PDP officials were ordered by Sambo to attend to their needs and save the party from public embarrassment.

The hoodlums were said to have been keeping Sambo hostage for at least 20 minutes before the settlement. Finally the police handed off the seized weapons as the thugs rejoined the Vice President convoy to proceed with the trip.

The Zonal Police Public Relations officer, ASP Rabilu Ringim, when contacted requested some time to ascertain the matter. However, no official confirmation has been provided since.
