The
NDLEA (National Drug Law Enforcement Agency) has found 2.5kg of cocaine
inside female shoes and voltage regulators at the Murtala Muhammed
International Airport, Lagos.
According to the NDLEA’s Head of Public Affairs, Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, drugs were found in an abandoned luggage that came on board of an Ethiopian Airline flight from Brazil and contained women's shoes. "During examination, 1.860kg of cocaine was found inside the shoe soles," Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju stated.
When the other part of cocaine was found in a parcel with voltage regulators which meant for export to Gabon on a DHL cargo flight. And a 37-year-old man, Anslem Nyeaka, has been arrested as a suspect of smuggling 600 grammes of cocaine to Gabon.
Anslem Nyeaka, a native of Imo State, confessed that it's not his shipment. He claimed that a client gave him this consignment: "I am a freight forwarder with over five years working experience. A client gave me a bag containing three voltage regulators and hair attachment to send to Gabon. The NDLEA at SAHCOL, while searching the luggage, dismantled the voltage regulators and found five parcels of substance that tested positive for cocaine in one of the regulators."
The Chairman of NDLEA, Mr. Ahmadu Giade, said that the suspect will soon answer before the court for his deeds. He also said that recent drug seizures on some African routes have placed them on a high risk platform. Mr. Ahmadu Giade added that they must be vigilant and prevent the sub-region from being used as a drug hub.
