Vice President Namadi Sambo, accompanied by some Governors, landed in Kaduna in the evening of April 18, 2014, Friday, ahead of the turbaning of Governor Alhaji Mukhtar Ramalan Yero by the Zazzau Emirate Council in Zaria.
According to SaharaReporters, Governor Yero is turbaned as Dallatun Zazzau, by the Emir of Zaria, Alhaji Shehu Idris, on April 19, 2014, Saturday.
Millions of Naira have already been spent on preparations for the ceremony. Reportedly, more expenditures were coming. At the same time, the government complains of lack of funds to carry out development projects that will improve the lives of its citizens.
All the major hotels in Kaduna and Zaria have been booked and filled with VIP guests and other personalities. Several more are expected to arrive right before the ceremony.
Posters, T-shirts and souvenirs are said to have been produced in the thousands. An impressive convoy of assorted cars transfers guests and associates of the governor and Vice President Sambo, who is Yero’s political godfather.
VP Sambo was received at the airport by Kaduna Deputy Governor, Nuhu Bajoga. Sambo’s meeting with governor will take place later in Zaria.
As Dallatun Zazzau, Yero replaces Alhaji Mohammed Hayatudeen, who passed away in December 2013.
Some analysts say the acquisition of the title by the governor has political undertones, aimed at boosting his 2015 gubernatorial chances in the state. However, others insist the title has no political significance at all.
