The Jos attack was reportedly launched after 6pm at the market near the Terminus bus station, AFP reports.
The coordinator for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mohammed Abdulsalam, confirmed the incident saying the targeted venue was a densely populated area.
Pam Ayuba, the spokesperson of Plateau State governor, Jonah Jang, said 31 people died instantly adding however that the figure might rise as the rescuers are still working at the site.
It would be recalled that the same area was attacked on May 20, following which the military arrested a suspect. According to various sources, from 118 to 200 people were killed in that twin blast.
Meanwhile it was disclosed yesterday by a top security source and a nurse that a 13-year-old girl was detained December 10 in Kano after she had entered together with her accomplice a medical facility in search for treatment.
The doctors of the clinic, located not far from the scene of the recent Kano market explosion, kept vigilant following the tragedy and alerted the police.
The nurse, who pleaded for anonymity, said:
“We alerted the police who immediately mobilised and arrested the duo. On searching her, the police discovered explosives hidden under her hijab, confirming our suspicion. They took her and the man accompanying her away.”
According to the military senior, the teenager belonged to the “suicide team” that attacked the busy Kantin Kwari textile bazaar, as a result of which 6 people, including 2 female suicide bombers, were killed and 7 other people were injured.
“Her arrest is a huge breakthrough in unravelling the spate of suicide attacks by young girls in the city.”
