According to Vanguard newspaper report online, Muhammad Abacha,
the eldest son of the late Head of State, General Sani Abacha, was said
to have withdrawn from the exercise last night.
Reports had stated on Friday that President Goodluck Jonathan met behind closed-door with the junior Abacha in Abuja.
Though the details of the meeting were not reported, Punch reports that the meeting was suspected to bother on the just concluded primaries of the PDP in Kano State.
Meanwhile, it was gathered that Takai, who was the gubernatorial candidate of the defunct All Nigerian Peoples Party, ANPP, in 2011 general election, defeated six other candidates for the sole PDP ticket.
Though details of the result of the primaries are still being expected, it was however disclosed that Takai recorded a landslide victory against his rivals as he scored 1260 votes.
It would be recalled that Takai had stated, after submitting his governorship expression of interest and nomination forms at the national Secretariat in Abuja, that he has the needed agenda and programmes that will give victory to the PDP over the All Progressives Congress in the 2015 governorship election in the state.
“I am optimistic that, by the grace of God, I will win,” he said.
“Just like while they were in government in 1999, we were outside and we came in 2003 and we won. And it happened that in 2011 we were with Malam Shekarau, and for whatever reason, they came into government. So, there are a lot of chances for us to win.
“So it is something that is not one-sided. It depends on you, your agenda what you have for the people and then you sell it to the people.”
Speaking on the current state of insecurity in the country, Takai said there is need for a collective effort to tackle the challenges.
“We have a lot of plan on that. The issue of security is not that of Nigeria alone. One has to do as much as he can and with the collaboration of other stakeholders, we surmount the challenge,” he said.
