Just In: Boko Haram Captures Askira Uba Town In Borno

Reports just reaching us inform that members of the radical Islamist sect, Boko Haram has captured Askira Uba town in Borno State.

TheCable reports that the capturing was done over the night which is less than a day after the Nigerian military regained Monguno, from the extremist group.

It was gathered from a source who spoke on condition of anonymity that the jihadist militants attacked the town in the night and burnt down the emir’s palace.

“They attacked the town in the night and burnt down the emir’s palace. Most of the villagers ran away into the bush, so there was really no casualty,” the source said.


Meanwhile, the Boko Haram sect has carried out series of deadly attacks on innocent and vulnerable citizens in the northeastern part, especially in Maiduguri, Borno state capital.

The Nigerian military repelled the terrorist in a fierce battle on Sunday and finally regained control of Monguno, the only town previously under the sect’s control, therefore passing a message across to Nigerians that no part of the state was under the sect’s grip.

Recall that Monguno town which was captured by the Boko Haram on January 25, 2015 after a massive attack from different directions, but the Nigerian military reportedly regained Monguno, Marte and other communities in the North of Borno state from the Islamist sect.

Meanwhile, with the terrorists still claiming towns, it will then be imperative to call to mind the pledge recently made by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) expressing confidence that a 6-week period was enough to crush Boko Haram.

However, the Nigerian army had earlier on February 2, 2015, announced that it recaptured five towns, including Gamboru, from the extremists.borno.html
