According to The Nation, Oshiomhole spoke on February 9, 2015 in Benin, the state capital, while receiving some defectors from the PDP.

He took the opportunity to express his opinion about the recent poll shift and urged the people of the state to exercise tolerance.

“So, whether they postpone the election or not, we won’t fight. They can’t postpone Christmas. I want to appeal to all of you, nobody should be angry because I know you were ready for Saturday’s election. Only a debtor thinks tomorrow is far. Everybody has seen they don’t want elections. They sponsored discussions on television, Jega said INEC was not the issue. So, they came up with security. If they like, let them keep coming up with issues; elections will hold.”

Furthermore, Oshiomhole expressed his assurance that ‎the All Progressives Congress (APC) would continue to mobilise for more support, even from the opposition party, “so that Edo State will be 100 per cent for APC.”

The governor in his speech expressed happiness and praised the courage of the defectors for dumping the Peoples Democratic Party. He also assured that the APC would bring the much desired change and development to the country.

Oshiomhole has recently revealed why he wants Goodluck Jonathan to be voted out in the forthcoming 2015 presidential election. According to him, the President abandoned Edo State and did nothing for the state despite securing 95% votes of Edo people for his re-election in 2011.
