The Ice Church is located at the Balea Lac resort in the Fagaras
mountains. It was built after water from Balea Lake was frozen and the
ice had been blessed by priests. The cathedral was cut by a chainsaw and
cemented together with water and snow. It is six metres tall, 14 metres
long and seven metres wide.

The unusual church is considered to be a place for religious
tolerance. Orthodox, Catholic and Protestant clerics have already held a
service there this week. Ioan Crisan, an Eastern Rite Catholic priest,
said,
“For a few moments, people forget what they left down in the
valley: the fights, the misunderstandings, the contradictory arguments.”
