Nigerian Doctor Visits USA To Join Anti-Ebola Research

A Nigerian doctor, Akinniyi Emmanuel Fadipe, who survived the Ebola virus disease is going to visit the USA to donate blood and possibly participate in anti-Ebola research.

Dr Fadipe works at the First Consultants Hospital in Lagos where the horrible disease was first recorded in Nigeria.


According to Punch, the doctor is expected to visit San Antonio’s BioBridge Global on Tuesday, February 24, 2015. There he will donate blood and participate in research that could hopefully improve treatment options for Ebola patients.

The blood sample will be taken in BioBridge Global’s South Texas Blood & Tissue Center where it will be screened by QualTex Laboratories to see if Fadipe qualifies for the research project which is ongoing at XBiotech in Austin.

The Medical Director for BioBridge Global, Rachel Beddard, has stressed that Fadipe’s visit is extremely important because he “was in the trenches, treating Ebola patients at ground zero in Nigeria.”

Fadipe in his turn said that his visit to donate blood is a “small price to pay” if the result saves lives.

Meanwile, German drugmaker STADA announced that next month they would launch a test that can diagnose Ebola virus infections within several minutes.
