Ngige Explains Why INEC Shifted General Elections

More than 48 hours after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the postponement of the 2015 general elections by six weeks, former Anambra State governor Senator Chris Ngige has explained the motive behind the shift of the polls.
According Ngige, who represents Anambra Central Senatorial District, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is behind the pressure mounted on the INEC to postpone the February polls to avert its imminent electoral defeat.
The Daily Trust reports online that Ngige made the statement while speaking with his supporters who gathered to welcome his campaign train at Isiagu, Nibo, Umuawulu and Mbaukwu, saying that the six weeks given to tackle security challenges might not be enough.

Ngige stated that the ruling party has run out of steam, having not performed well enough to convince the electorate to return the party to power.

He stressed that the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) would defeat the PDP any time the polls were held.
Ngige also accused the PDP of encouraging multiple candidates to campaign after it had nominated one person as its flag bearer.

He said: “It is a cyclic ritual for PDP to go for multiple candidates. They enjoy it, that is why as many as three candidates from four different local government areas of Anambra Central Senatorial District are campaigning against me.”

The chairman of the INEC, Prof Attahiru Jega had blamed the inability of Nigeria’s security agencies to guarantee full security during the general elections for the postponement of the polls.
