President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday,
May 22 said he is not slow in bringing back the girls who were abducted
by Boko Haram over a month ago in Chibok community, Borno state.

This was disclosed in speech delivered on his behalf by the Minister of State, Federal Capital Territory, Olajumoke Akinjide, to a team of #BringBackOurGirls protesters led by a former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili in Abuja.
Reacting to speculations that he was slow in rescuing the missing girls, Jonathan said such speculation was wrong and most unfair as the federal government had swung into action from the first day the girls were abducted, directing security agents to go after the abductors, adding that Nigeria is now receiving strong support from neighbouring and international countries in the search for the girls which is now a global issue.
"So far, the search for our girls is on and is receiving global support. Nigeria in collaboration with Niger, Chad, Cameroon and Benin republic have all agreed to establish a single centre for sharing intelligence on the activities of terrorist across our national boundaries," the president said.
President Jonathan explained that he is constantly discussing with security chiefs and consulting on a daily basis with regional and global partners over the matter and other security issues, therefore he cannot be described as being slow.
He further explained that federal government as part of efforts to rescue the abducted girls had mobilized all resources, military and diplomatic in the search and rescue mission for the girls.
He therefore appealed to the protesters to show realistic understanding of the situation and other matters of terrorism as the government is working hard with other nations in order to secure the release of the girls as soon as possible.The President was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, Minister of Federal Capital Territory, FCT and State, Senator Bala Muhammed and Minister of State, Oloye Olajumoke Akinjide, Minister of Environment, Mrs. Lawrencia Laraba-Mallam, Minister of Niger-Delta, Mr. Darius Ishaku,Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku, Senior Assistant to the President on media, Dr. Rueben Abati and the Senior Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Dorun Okukpe among others.
