*Dr David Oyedepo
The clergy man made this known at the opening of a workshop on ‘Conflict Management and Resolution: A Leadership Competence Development’.
He stated that the struggle for political power between the country's ruling class was also a reason for insurgency and other socio-economic and political conflicts befalling the nation.
Oyedepo, while delivering the keynote address at the event, hampered on character, courage and capacity, noting that the absence of the three had thrown Nigeria and the Africa continent into a deep hole.
He asserted that Africa's problem is obvious because it is a continent representing about 11 per cent of the world population but benefiting more than 75 per cent of the United Nations’ aids to conflict ridden countries.
The occasion which was organised by the university’s Centre for African Leadership Development Centre, is slated to last three-days, under the chairmanship of Dr Kalu Idika Kalu, the former minister of finance, with several other peace advocates and foreign ambassadors including the ambassador of the Republic of Ireland to Nigeria, Mr Patrick Fay.
Prof. Aize Obayan, the centre’s Director and former Vice-Chancellor of the university, in his remark pointed out the need to brainstorm on the challenges, conflicts and contradictions in the country.
He said the event became more imperative now “especially with the missing of more than 200 students whose whereabouts was yet to be known.”
According to him, the workshop recommendations would be passed to the government at the appropriate levels and members of the public, adding that their implementations will also be pursued by concerned authorities.
