JUST IN: Court Strikes Out Governor Amaechi’s Suit

Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State has been told that he could not stop members of the state House of Assembly from removing him from office, according to the verdict of a High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

While ruling on Monday, The Nation reports that the court stated that Gov. Amaechi's suit was 'baseless and incompetent'.

It could be recalled that Rivers State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party was engulfed with crisis in April last year which extended to national level leading to Amaechi’s suspension from the party a month later.

After Amaechi's suspension, five lawmakers, Evans Bipi (Ogu/Bolo),  Kelechi Nwogu (Omuma), Martin Amaewhule(Obio/Akpor 1),  Victor Ihunwo (Port Harcourt 3), and Micheal Chinda  (Obio/Akpor 2), who are not loyal to the governor initiated moves to remove him.

As a result, Gov. Amaechi went to the court to restrain all the lawmakers along with the Speaker from removing him from office without following due process.

However, Justice George Omereji on Monday struck out Amaechi's suit, stating non reasonable cause of action.

The judge opined that the governor’s fears were unfounded, saying that he laid allegations on persons that were not joined in the suit.

As at the time of compiling this report, it is still unknown the next move of the Governor.
